Maldives Association Of Tourism Industry

MATI

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization formed in 1982, for the purpose of promoting and developing tourism in the Maldives. Three decades of MATI’s service has been provided to almost all the travel and tourism related issues which arise in Maldives.

A key function of MATI is coordinating with all mandatory government policy making bodies to align new laws and regulations to Tourism Industry best practices. 

Additionally, we represent the industry internationally and locally by attending different seminars, organizing and providing research and offering professional consultation to governmental, private and international organizations.

A founder member of MATI, Mr. M.U. Maniku is the current Chairman of MATI. He is also the Chairman of Universal Enterprises responsible for opening and operating Kurumba Maldives, the first ever resort to be opened in Maldives. He is considered as one of the pioneers of the Tourism Industry of Maldives,

M.U. MANIKU (CHAIRMAN, MATI)

A founder member of MATI, Mr. Salah Shihab is a current Vice-Chairman of MATI. He is also the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Voyages Maldives Pvt Ltd and Seagull Group. Having served in the Education and Foreign Service sectors in high profile posts of the government, he is a seasoned Civil Servant and Diplomat as well. He is also considered as one of the pioneers of the Liveaboard / Safari / Cruising industry of Maldives.

SALAH SHIHAB (VICE-CHAIRMAN, MATI)

Mr. Ahmed Nazeer is the current Secretary General of MATI and one of the key driving forces of the organisation. He is a Founder and Director of Crown Company, Commercial Bank of Maldives and Treetop Hospital and has also served in the Executive Board of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). He has worked in both the Government and private sectors in various capacities.

AHMED NAZEER (SECRETARY GENERAL, MATI)

A founder member of MATI, Mr. Hussain Afeef is a current Vice-Chairman of MATI. He is also one of the founders and shareholders of companies such as Crown Company, Treetop Hospital, KASA Holdings and Commercial Bank of Maldives. He was an owner and part of the corporate team responsible for developing Trans Maldivian Airways into a world-class seaplane fleet. He is also considered as one of the pioneers of the Tourism Industry of Maldives.
